Funshi Ramen Sushi Boba Tea is a hot new revolving sushi restaurant known for its futuristic style and traditional Japanese sushi.

The Beachwood location opened in December on the exterior of the LePlace mall on the corner of Richmond and Cedar Roads, facing Cedar, added to previous locations in Avon and Rocky River.

The ambiance of the restaurant has a futuristic, modern vibe while maintaining authenticity.

What’s most unique about the restaurant is the way customers receive their food. At Funshi, you do not order from waiters as at a traditional sit down restaurant. Instead, you can order specific items from an iPad at your table or take plates from the constantly-moving conveyor belt.

The plates on the conveyor belt each hold small portions of Japanese cuisine such as traditional rolls, specialty rolls, nigiri, desserts and other Japanese foods.

These plates are designed for customers to take and stack many of them, so they can taste a variety of options.

There are both black and white plates on the conveyor belt. The black plates represent cooked sushi, while the white plates represent raw sushi. Each plate from the belt costs $3.50.

For the purpose of this review, as in other Bison Bites reviews, we will focus on a few key factors of the restaurant: the overall vibe, the taste of the food, the service from the staff, convenience and authenticity.

Starting off with the restaurant’s vibe, Funshi has a great feel because of its modern decor and attentive staff, which help add to the positive atmosphere.

Taste is arguably the most important category. It is clear that the ingredients used at Funshi are fresh. The food from the conveyor belt as well as made- to-order dishes taste great and seem to be made from quality ingredients.

A few items that I personally recommend include the spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll, sesame balls and the variety of boba drinks the restaurant has to offer. Everything is made fresh. It is clear that Funshi has great taste, due to their traditional Japanese style.

Up next is service. All of the Funshi staff have a positive attitude and bring light into the restaurant. They are always there to assist with any questions or needs of their customers and to keep the process quick, easy and efficient.

Funshi is also very convenient for BHS students. The restaurant is located in Beachwood, just a few minutes by car from BHS. The process at Funshi is completely self-paced, based on how quickly you choose to order your food. Overall, Funshi is a very convenient sushi restaurant.

Lastly, Funshi is a very authentic Japanese restaurant. Not only is the food authentic, but the restaurant is also decorated with traditional Japanese art and has soft traditional music playing. However, the main thing that makes the restaurant authentic is the revolving sushi bar, or conveyor belt sushi, common in Japan.

Funshi is not the only revolving sushi bar in the Cleveland area. Watami, located in Parma, was reviewed in this publication last year.

Overall, Funshi Ramen Sushi Boba Tea is a great option when looking for a fun dining experience with authentic Japanese cuisine.
