Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) had its movie debut Oct. 27 after many years of buildup and delay due to various setbacks.

The movie is based on a video-game franchise, spanning multiple games, comic books and music videos.

Many people had high expectations for the film due to the success of the franchise over many years.

In the games, the player must operate a night guard, with the goal of surviving until six in the morning while dodging attacks from possessed animatronics.

The movie earned almost $300 million globally, with a huge profit margin due to its small $20 million budget.

FNAF also received an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score, revealing popular fan support.

The designs and CGI for the animatronics were amazing and added great detail to the movie. The characters Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy look identical to the original game, FNAF 1, and look just as threatening as they are described in the books.

Many fans of the games went in expecting the movie to be similar to the games. Most were happy with the similarities, and the movie also adds more hidden lore behind the games.

However, some were disappointed by the deviations from the games.

Some fans thought the movie wasn’t frightening, even with the efforts to depict a scary setting.

“The jumpscares were effective, but did this movie ever really make me feel uneasy? No, not really, but again, that’s my personal opinion. Not a dig at the movie whatsoever,” wrote Liam3011 on IMDb.

There is not much to be scared of in this movie.

“So much plot is crammed into this nearly two-hour film, that it’s honestly quite shocking that there’s nary a scare to be found,” Trace Thurman wrote on Rotten Tomatoes.

Other fans were pleased by the movie and enjoyed the new plot and characters, thinking it great for Halloween.

In addition, the movie attracted a broader audience with cameos from some famous YouTubers. These content creators, such as CoryxKenshin and Matpat, were significant to the popularity of the original FNAF game franchise,

Each character, cameo and easter egg in the movie was extremely fun to recognize.

In addition, there were times where the movie was comical as there were quite a few unexpected scenes and additions.

Overall, the movie was an amazing watch, even though there were some aspects that were disappointing. The movie did not provide as much background as the gaming franchise, and including more of it would have undoubtedly increased the viewer’s enjoyment.

Nevertheless, FNAF is a great movie if you’re looking for something fun and not too scary.
