The Bison boys tennis team is aiming for a historic season.

Junior Captain Ari Synenberg is hopeful to make states, alongside his doubles partner Junior Captain Joseph Mo.

“The goal for me this year is to make states,” Synenberg said. “I want my name to be on the board outside the Beachwood Tennis courts under my uncle Reid Synenberg and personal mentor Landis Terron.”

Mo is also extremely hopeful to make states.

“Ari and I both share so much passion for tennis, which drives us to be better and hopefully go on to states this season,” Mo said.

Junior Captain David Hong is also focused on a successful season.

“My goal is to simply make districts and have an overall great season with my team, while also leading the team well,” Hong said.

So far this season the Bison are 3-2, having beat Fairview, Bay and Mayfield, and fell to Hawken and CVCA, two of the top teams in Northeast Ohio.

The captains also emphasized the strength of the freshmen and sophomores on the team, which bodes well for the future of the program.

The captains gave a special shoutout to sophomore Micheal Beck, who is quickly developing to be the next Beachwood tennis star.

Both Synenberg and Hong are extremely pleased with Beck’s improvement since last year both as a player and as a teammate.

“Micheal Beck is good,” Synenberg said. “He will get varsity playing time and also has a really solid backhand.”

The team captains also highlighted Clarence Ouyang because of the energy and passion he brings to the court.

A big player to watch out for this year is Junior Ido Rub, who is playing some singles, as well as  doubles with David Hong.

Hong and Rub are also aiming to make districts.

Something all of the Beachwood tennis players have in common is their respect and appreciation for their coach, David Cole.

“Coach Cole is a great coach, he keeps us all engaged during the offseason, and he brings the energy,” Hong said.

Synenberg agrees.

“He is a huge mentor to me, and always helps me get better. He’s the reason I have motivation both in tennis and in life,” Synenberg said. “I love him, both as a person and as a coach,”

Overall, the Bison are set to have an exciting and successful season.

The Bison are scheduled to face Chagrin Falls at home on Monday, April 20 at 4:30.
