The Bison girls basketball team is proving their pre-season hype was no fluke, as they’ve stormed out to an impressive 4-0 start.
With strong performances on both ends of the floor and a united team effort, the Bison are making an early statement this season
In game one, they kicked off their campaign with a commanding 51-21 win over Garrett Morgan.
Defensively, the team was relentless, forcing 33 turnovers and converting them into fast-break opportunities. Freshman standout Zoe Walters also shined, contributing in her varsity debut.
In their second game, Beachwood faced a challenging matchup against Shaw High School.
The team’s performance in the second game was perfect, with the Bison pulling away late to secure a 72-31 victory. Freshman guard Zoe Walters was unstoppable on the court, tallying 37 points.
Anchoring the defense, senior Goldi Aschkenasy had a bucket load of blocks and contributed 8 points.
The team’s composure under pressure was a testament to their off-season preparation and leadership
Beachwood’s third win came in a balanced performance against East Tech, where every player contributed.
The Bison’s defense was once again the highlight, holding their opponents to just 6 points.
Freshman guard Aviva Haas and senior forward Goldi Aschkenasy each scored 10 points to lead 11 Bison players, while the bench also played a critical role on offense.
Overall, the team has been off to a great start, showing that their preseason work has been paying off.
The Bison moved to 4-0 on the season as they picked up the big win in a CVC Metro game vs. Cuyahoga Heights, finishing 37-15.
Zoe Walters and Goldi Aschkenasy led the way with 15 and 10 points respectively.
Senior Lexi Jaffe and junior guard Marley Readence both contributed with 6 points.
Freshman Zoe Walters was recognized as Bison athlete of the week after the Cuyahoga Heights game.
“Zoe’s dynamic play has impacted both ends of the court for the Lady Bison as she is averaging 18 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 steals per game and 2.5 assists per game,” Beachwood Bison Athletics posted on social media.
As a freshman she has truly been dominant and a leader for this 2024-2025 team.
The Bison’s undefeated start has been fueled by their defensive tenacity and unselfish play. They’re averaging multiple forced turnovers per game and have outscored every opponent by more than 20 points.
Offensively, they’ve been efficient, with several players stepping into scoring roles, ensuring opponents can’t key in on just one player.
This team has already proven their endurance and established considerable momentum.
With a perfect 4-0 start, the Bison girls basketball team has given their fans plenty to cheer about and raised expectations for the season.
If the Bison continue playing with this level of intensity and cohesion, they’ll be a tough team to beat and a legitimate contender for the league title.
