Allie Rindsberg interviewed Grant Keilin immediately after the Independence game on Sept. 24.

Senior soccer team co-captain Grant Keilin broke two all-time records on Tuesday, Sept. 24, during the game against Independence.

The record for goals scored in a high school career was previously held at 92, and the record for assists was 36, but Keilin raised the bar on both records during last week’s game. At publication he has netted 95 goals and at least 39 assists.

Keilin, who broke the single-season scoring record last season with 37 goals, expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches.

“This is pretty surreal. I’m just happy to be a part of a great program,” he said.

Going into the game, he felt all the pre-game jitters.

“I was really excited,” he said. “It was a little nerve-wracking, but I knew I just had to get the job done.”

Reflecting back, Keilin acknowledges the history he has made.

“It’s really exciting to know that your name is going to be in the history books of your school,” he said.

Keilin advises younger athletes to keep pushing themselves.

“Just try your best,” he said. “Put forth all your effort in practice, because it’ll show in the games.”

Keilin has led the Bison to a 12-0-2 record at publication, with ties to Hawken and NDCL. The team is undefeated in the CVC. They are scheduled to play Open Door Christian at 1:00 on Saturday, Oct. 5.
