The Bison volleyball team is serving up their first winning season in several years, with a 7-3 record (1-1 in CVC) at publication.
Last year’s team finished the season 2-18.
Sophomore Captain Miriam Aschkenasy is excited for the progress the team made in the off-season, and that this year’s team is much more cohesive and skilled than last year’s.
“Last year we weren’t really a team, [but] a lot more people played JO [Junior Olympics] and are more experienced now,” she said.
Having a winning season depends on more than skills and experience, though, it also depends on how well the team can work together. Even though Aschkenasy is confident for the season, she acknowledges the team has one big obstacle to face.
“Sometimes our attitudes get in the way and people get mad at each other, but we always work through it,” she said.
As a new captain, Aschkenasy is focused on helping her team grow as individuals and work together as a unified team.
“I am trying to make the team more comfortable with each other [so that we can all] just get better at the sport,” she said.
She also hopes to hold her teammates accountable for working hard.
The Bison beat Trinity 3-2 on Sept. 14 and are scheduled to play Crestwood at home tonight at 6:00 p.m.
