Senior Landis Teren finished his senior season at districts with a first round loss to Zach Forte of Hawken, falling short of his goal of making it back to the state tournament.

Teren finished the regular season with a phenomenal record of 12-2 with really big wins against tough opponents.

Last year Teren was a state qualifier in men’s singles and has been motivated all year to surpass last year’s achievement. He’s spent the offseason practicing to improve.

“I worked a lot on my serve and volleys,” Teren said. “Those are two main things. I also started lifting a lot more. That all definitely helped me improve.”

Teren says he has improved significantly since last year in his regular season play.

“Compared to last year, I’d say that this year I’ve performed a good amount better,” he said.  “Definitely in the regular season I had some bigger wins including St. Vincent St. Mary’s 1st singles, and Youngstown’s first singles.”

“Also, at the start of the season I beat Hoban’s 1st singles 6-0 and 6-1,” he added.

Teren made a huge statement with these matches, showing that he could beat Div. 1 teams in singles.

Unfortunately, Teren fell short of his goal of returning to states this year.

“I qualified for districts… [but] had a very tough draw at the districts and ended up losing,” he said.

Nevertheless, Teren’s high school career was impressive. He was the first player to qualify for states in many years, and he has left a mark on Beachwood tennis.
