Brian Greene was named United States Regional Coach of the Year after coaching the 2023 boys soccer team to a 19-3 record-breaking season that ended in the Regional Finals.

He was also named Div. III Coach of the Year by OHSAA.

Greene is a BHS graduate (Class of 1985), and during his senior year the team advanced to the state quarterfinals.

According to Athletic Director Ryan Peters, the other four state quarterfinal appearances in program history happened with Greene as head coach (2014, 2015, 2022, 2023).

His record as a varsity head coach is now 271-181-51.

During Greene’s four year varsity playing career (1981-1984) the team went 37-29-7.

Goalie Josh Rosenblitt says he has learned important life lessons from Greene.

He’s taught me how to handle tough situations and battle adversity,” Rosenblitt said.

How long have you been working for Beachwood athletics?

I began coaching at BHS in 1989, [I’ve been] head coach since 1996.”

The wins are a product of the team buying into the team concepts. The most successful teams are the ones that put the time in during the off season.

Have you ever coached anywhere besides Beachwood?

“I was the assistant coach at Shaker for two years”

What have been some memorable moments from your years coaching at Beachwood?

Beating CVC rivals are the most memorable for me–winning at Chagrin, Orange, West [Geauga] and Kirtland is always special. But, that being said, last year’s [penalty kick] shootout in the district final and then the OT golden goal in Regionals by Grant [Keilin] will always be with me.”

What is something that you attribute to the success of our teams?

“I am most proud of the student athletes our program produces, it is much more important than the number of wins or going to Regionals. The compliments I get from other coaches about what good kids we have is what it is all about. My guys go on to be successful in life because they follow our mantra –  ‘Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, not because someone is watching’. The players never forget that and other life lessons we teach.”

Who are some athletes that have contributed the most to the success of our soccer program?

“[It’s] hard to single players out – soccer is a team sport and each graduating class is special to me. The wins are a product of the team buying into the team concepts. The most successful teams are the ones that put the time in during the off season.”
