Bison Dominate Harvey at Homecoming; 19 Players Suspended After Brawl
The Bison defended the home turf at the Homecoming game on Oct. 12, pulling off a 32-7 victory over the Harvey Red Raiders.
“Our offensive line did a great job holding up the game” sophomore linebacker Andrew Baker said.
The Bison capitalized on Harvey’s mistakes by intercepting many of Harvey’s passes and finding opportunities to score.
Junior wide receiver Dawann Gray, Jr., started the game off right with a 9-yard rushing touchdown.
Junior running back Letraize Walker followed that up with a 23-yard rushing touchdown. The Bison outran all of the Harvey defense.
Meanwhile the Bison defense, led by Junior defensive end Antonio Roscoe, did not allow the Harvey offense to gain any ground with the ball.
With 5:33 remaining in the first half, freshman linebacker DeAndre Roscoe intercepted a ball tipped by his brother Antonio Roscoe, giving possession to the Bison with a 13-0 lead.
Harvey regained the ball, but they gave it right back to the Bison as Prestige Smith had a 47-yard interception return that put the Bison into Harvey territory with 1:39 remaining in the first half.
At halftime the Bison were up 13-0, reflecting how hard they had worked the previous week in practice.
“We work so hard during the week,” sophomore cornerback Ralph Herkley said. “We are always working and it shows during game time.”
As Harvey and Beachwood came out to play for the second half, things started to physically escalate. Players started getting into minor brawls and trash talk ensued. To put it simply, the teams were feuding.
Harvey scored to make it 13-7, but with one minute remaining in the 3rd quarter, Kendyn Wiggins punched in a 28-yard touchdown to expand the Bison lead.
Letraize Walker and Dawann Gray Jr, also scored touchdowns to widen the margin.
But with 4:50 remaining in the game, after a 50-yard touchdown scored by Walker, that physical play went too far as captain Jacob Borison was illegally hit from behind, leading a Bison player to retaliate.
Punches were thrown and a fight broke loose.
“It all happened really fast,” Borison said. “It was a real mess and everyone was going at it.”
Officials ended the game early due to the fight with a final score of 32-7.
The fight led to one-game suspensions of 19 Bison football players.
They will play the Tigers of Chagrin Falls tonight, Oct. 19, but with a shortage of players.
As they always do, the Bison will have to find a way to pull out a win, even with the odds stacked against them.
