Senior golfers Nate Burke and Drew Schnee competed at Sectionals at Forest Hills Golf Course in Elyria on Tuesday.

Both golfers won by one stroke, qualifying them to advance to Districts.

The team’s regular-season record stands at a strong 11-2.

“I feel fantastic about my win and I am confident into going into my next game,” Burke said.

Earlier in the season, Coach Will Cumpstone was already hopeful for Schnee and Burke’s prospects.

“[I’m] excited to see how far both Drew Schnee and Nate Burke can go in the State Tournaments,” Cumpstone said in mid-Sept.

“They both reached the OHSAA State Semi-Finals last year and under-performed, so I am looking forward to the first step which will be the Quarterfinals,” Cumpstone added.

Schnee has focused on improvement this season.

“I have improved since last year as my 18 hole average is about 3.5 strokes lower, which is important when it comes to post season play,” Schnee said.

Burke has also improved this season.

“I practiced a lot over the summer to improve on my weaknesses, especially putting and chipping, because that is the most important part of golf,” he said.

Schnee is comfortable as a leader on the team.

“It feels good to be a role model and a leader for the younger players on the team,” he said.
