On Saturday night in Painesville the Beachwood boys basketball team defeated the Kirtland Hornets 63-53 in the Sectional final to advance to the district tournament against Hawken.

Beachwood used early pressure to turn the Hornets over and lead to some easy scores in transition. The Bison opened up an eleven point lead at the half with the score 33-22. In a second half riddled with fouls and turnovers, the Bison didn’t allow the Hornets to get closer than eight points the entire half. Beachwood was led by Ellis Cohen with 20 points and John Davis with 19 points. The Bison looked a little rusty as they missed some open shots and turned the ball over a few times too many. They will have to tighten up their game if they want to beat Hawken, who they split the season series with, and advance to the district finals.

Beachwood will play Hawken at 8:00 on Wednesday night in Painesville. The Hawks defeated Gilmore 57-49 in their sectional final.
