During the fourth quarter of last week’s game against Gilmour, the Beachwood football team scored two touchdowns for a 21-19 win. After six wins last season and the momentum from last week’s game, the Bison are gearing up for a great season.
What can students expect from their team this year? According to senior Jason Edwards, fans should “look forward to a very productive season.” Attributing his confidence to “lots of time spent in the weight room,” Edwards believes that the “playoffs are looking pretty good.” Edwards isn’t the only player brimming with confidence this year. Junior Joon Kim also believes that the Bison are poised to do well this season. “This year, there’s talent across the board,” Kim explained enthusiastically, “definitely more than last year.” Before heading out to practice, Kim made sure to point out that “The only thing holding us back is ourselves.”
Why is there so much confidence in a team that didn’t make the playoffs last year? Head coach Ryan Williams points to the amount of young talent on the team. Williams acknowledges that there are “ a lot of younger players that are expected to play varsity this year.” Williams, though, expresses a great deal of confidence in these younger players, as does Athletic director Ryan Peters. Peters feels that “the freshman class is strong,” leading to his confidence that the football team is set up for success for years to come.
Despite graduating many productive players last year, in addition to losing several others this year, the Bison expect to be competitive within their conference. The players and coaches have set high expectations for themselves.
The Bison play the Lions on Friday, September 3rd at 7:00 at Orange.
