Kim Jisoo, more commonly known as the musical artist Jisoo, released her new mini album Amortage on Feb. 14.

She started out as a member of Blackpink, the leading K-pop girl group. She was also produced and managed by one of the biggest companies in K-pop, YG Entertainment.

In recent years, each member of BlackPink has gone down their own paths, pursuing solo careers and acting gigs. Jisoo decided to continue her musical career with the release of her debut solo album and starting her own label, BLISSOO Entertainment

The exciting thing is, Jisoo’s debut is different from the music other Blackpink members have released.

For example Roseanne Park, known as Rose, released her album Rosie in December, an emotional breakup album.

Lalisa Manobaan, known as Lisa, released her album Alter Ego on Feb. 29, which contains rap, rock and even pop music.

Similarly Kim Jennie, known as Jennie, released her album Ruby on March 7, which contains hip-hop, R&B and rap sounds.

While the other members seem to be catering towards a Western audience, Jisoo is remaining true to her K-pop roots. Each song contains Korean words, making it a K-pop album.

An example is her title track “Earthquake,” containing pop beats. The song is joyful and sweet to dance to.

In the music video she is seen to have many background dancers and a lavish, modern background.

In the beginning, Jisoo is seen working in an office, but then she gets a notification that leads to her being investigated. She flees in a sports car and goes through many dramatic changes as though living through an earthquake.

Critics and fans are impressed with her talent. They believe that this new album shows a new side of Jisoo that we have never seen before.

“The fact is Amortage is the biggest proof of [jisoo’s] talents from her vocal, her writing skill and her produce of the songs. proof of yg [holds] her back for years to show off her talents. She put everything on this comeback. jisoo we are so proud of you. no one hold you back anymore”  –@kjslifes

Jisoo’s song “Your Love” has a soft and comforting sound to it, making the listener feel relaxed, and the melody stands out with her soft vocals.

TEARS had a nice upbeat sound, but the chorus is more powerful, emphasizing her emotionally rich vocals, which seem to lament the end of a relationship.

Lastly, “Hugs & Kisses” blends R&B with pop, emphasizing independence after a breakup. The lyrics include the line “don’t need your hugs and kisses,” channeling Beyonce’s Lemonade, showing that she is over the man who has hurt her. The sound is upbeat and includes a great instrumental.

Overall, Amortage is a fantastic album for K-pop fans with upbeat sounds and a mix of R&B. This mini album demonstrates just how talented Jisoo is as she branches out and continues her musical career.
