Personally, I can never do homework at home because I will make some grade A oatmeal, and then I will end up taking a nap that will drift into a good night’s sleep.

And of course, no one wants to stay after school to do homework after being in the same building for six hours.

When I came to Beachwood last year, I wasn’t familiar with all the hangout spots. I mean I knew about the mall, Swenson’s, the “J”,  or sometimes Legacy for a quick Chipotle trip.

Recently I discovered Nervous Dog, located next to Mitchell’s and the Container Store at La Place.

Now some may say “I have been going to Nervous Dog since they opened two years ago,” but Nervous Dog is a new discovery for me.

Nervous Dog is a vibe. The coffee is great, the employees are nice, and they also give great recommendations. The drink names are creative, yet simple.

Recently I put two and two together and realized that their drinks and other menu items are named after dogs: monkey dog, nitro dog, mocha dog, chihuahuas and sled dog.

I prefer to sit at a table with a lamp. It gives a homey library feel. Once I am settled in, I head to the register to order my new favorite drink: a white mocha with almond milk.

One employee made my drink so pretty I had to take a picture of it and edit it on VSCO.

Why is Nervous Dog different than most coffee shops like Starbucks? Because it gives more of a community vibe that you can’t really find at our local Starbucks in Legacy. Also, may I mention again, the names of the drinks are one-of-a-kind; who knew to come up with creative drinks named after dogs? Genius.

The employees at Nervous Dog are great, clean and also have some great playlists. In Nervous Dog, I always find myself putting my own headphones away and just listening to the music from  one of the employees’ playlists. I have not been disappointed yet.

The setting of the inside place is what draws me in the most; that and the smell of the fresh coffee brewing.

Not only do they sell coffee, they have a great little bakery and they also sell sandwiches. Personally my favorite is the Cheese Danish. Then I’ll go back and get a Bagel or another White Mocha.

The pricing at Nervous Dog is somewhere between not too high and “Wow 2.00 for a Danish” — but that is just me. Nervous Dog is worth the almost $15 I spend, and I get so much work done there.

Nervous Dog is also great for just hanging out. If you want to meet or find some friends, it’s a great place. Also it’s next to Mitchells, and there’s always time for a study break with ice cream.
