Get Ready For Cabaret Night
Beachwood’s choir will host a Cabaret Night in the auditorium this Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7:00 p.m.
The show will feature performances by the BHS choir, middle school choir, sign choir and the Solid Gold show choir, which started last year.
The choirs will perform 25 songs, many of them focusing on themes of hope, perseverance and being there for a friend.
“The money raised will go towards social events, future trips and the middle school trip to Cedar Point for the Music in the Parks Competition,” choir teacher Darlene Haight wrote in an email.
Solid Gold show choir is the newest ensemble to be involved in the performance, and members are excited to be involved.
“It’s a mixture of everything in the theater,” said show choir co-captain Jordyn Zawatsky. “It’s fun and a good group of kids.”
Haight and guidance counselor Meghan Sullivan worked with students to get the club off the ground last year.
Club members have been meeting every Tuesday in the choir room.
If a student wishes to join show choir, they must pick a song and perform it at audition.
“Show choir auditions involve singing a song of the participant’s choice and learning a short dance,” Haight said.
Show choir practice consists of vocal warm-ups and sometimes a quick dance routine. Then they will run through their song routine and fix anything that needs additional work.
Next they run through choreography and fix any parts that aren’t to par. Students work to match every movement to musical cues.
Captains Eric Golovan and Jordyn Zawatsky spend additional time planning for their upcoming concerts. Golovan says being a team captain requires him to spend more time at home practicing new choreography.
Everyone contributes to the choir. At a practice in early October, Grace Warner brought in the props and another choir member brought in some musical instruments. Choir members take turns bringing snacks.
In addition to the cabaret night, the show choir has a winter concert that will be at BHS and a spring concert that will be at BHS. Outside of school they will be performing at Elder Class, One World, Bison Fest, an art show and a nursing home.
