This year’s Spirit Week, Oct. 17 to 21, was packed with exciting activities.

Assemblies were held on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. There were no assemblies on block days due to the PSAT, which was administered on Wednesday.

“This year’s Spirit Week is different than last year’s because of the testing conflicts and the way the holidays fell,” Student Activities Coordinator Craig Alexander said. “We actually lost two assemblies because of the way the schedule worked out.”

The first event on Monday was trivia, a battle between all four grades which tested students’ minds and reflexes.

The class of 2017 won the Spirit Week trophy with an overall score of 47,000 points; the classes of 2018 and 2020 tied for second with 43,000; and the class of 2019 finishing fourth with 39,000.

It came as no surprise when the seniors ultimately came out on top, answering far more questions than any of their competitors.

“I guess I’m feeling satisfied,” senior Daniel Leskov said about the win.

Leskov did not feel that his trivia dominance was threatened by any of his opponents.

During the basketball competition on Tuesday, the juniors demonstrated outstanding offense and play calling. Their team did not let up a single point during the games, and they eventually won it all.

During the half court contest, only one person, freshman Maddie Alexander, made the shot, and she got it on her first try.

“I was in shock, I couldn’t believe that I actually made it,” Maddie Alexander said.

“I felt pretty awesome moments after I had made the shot,” she added.

The last Spirit Week day started with the dodgeball tournament, won by the class of 2017, and the week ended with a Beachwood classic, jolly ball, which ended in a three-way tie between the classes of 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The class of 2017 won the Spirit Week trophy with an overall score of 47,000 points; the classes of 2018 and 2020 tied for second with 43,000; and the class of 2019 finishing fourth with 39,000.

According to Mr. Alexander, the purpose of Spirit Week is to give kids a break from academic stress. By this standard it was successful. Spirit Week 2016 was a good time and a great way for BHS students to let loose and have fun.
