Educational assistant Jackie Scotese is retiring after 35 years in the district.

As an educational assistant, Scotese works one-on-one or in small groups with students to help them achieve their individualized goals.

Scotese began her career at Mayfield, but came to Beachwood in 1989.

“I worked at Mayfield High School early on,” Scotese wrote in an email.

Scotese grew up in Willowick, where she attended Eastlake North High School and graduated in 1971.

She has lots of good memories during her time working in Beachwood, but her favorite was working at the ASL Club’s Annual Holiday Event.

There were so many students who worked so hard with Ms. Weisman to give the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community a time to socialize, eat and receive gifts,” Scotese said. “It grew to over 500 people in attendance. It was awesome.”

Scotese likes to spend her time outside of school visiting her family, reading and connecting with nature.

During her time at BHS, she noticed that the school community became more diverse over time, and it makes her feel proud to be here.

“It gives me hope to see how this district embraces different cultures,” she said. “I feel  fortunate to be a part of this community.”

After her retirement, Scotese plans to visit her family from all over the country. She also wants to get involved in other things after she retires.

“I have family in Denver, Santa Cruz and Maui,” she said. “I plan to visit them whenever I can.”

Scotese will depart Beachwood with fond memories of her time working here.

“I have a deep appreciation for the Beachwood students and staff,” she said. “They are kind, respectful and great to work with. I am grateful for that.”
