On Friday night the playoff hopes of the Beachwood football team slipped to the ledge, despite an inspired performance. The Bison battled back from a halftime deficit but were unable to get the win as they fell to host Cuyahoga Heights 21-14.
The Bison defense played great all night long holding the high-powered Redskin offense to only 21 points. The Bison took the lead early in the second quarter as Alex Hohl connected with Jacob Sabroff for a 74-yard touchdown. It was second down and 25 for Beachwood, but Hohl calmly stepped up in the pocket and hit Sabroff after he had gotten the defender to bite on an underneath move. Cuyahoga Hts. Scored on their next two possessions, bringing the score to 14-6.
The Bison tied the game on defense late in the third quarter as they forced a fumble and recovered it in the end zone. The Bison went for two and Hohl was flushed from the pocket but was able to race to the sideline and stretch the ball over the pylon for the conversion. The Redskins scored shortly afterwards on a short drive following a poor punt from the Bison. Beachwood was never able to score again as they fell short 21-14.
The loss drops the Bison to 6-3 and the win improves Cuyahoga Hts. to 8-1. Beachwood could sneak into the playoffs as the number eight seed if they can upset West Geauga at home on Saturday.
