The Beachwood Fire Department responded to an alarm that went off at the high school just after classes ended on Thurs., Jan. 9.
A frozen pipe was the culprit, according to a statement posted on the school district’s Facebook page.
“A ruptured frozen pipe in the sprinkler system in the science department offices resulted in the Beachwood Fire Department responding to an alarm at Beachwood High School,” the statement read.
In addition, it was noted that the safety of students was not compromised during the incident.
“Students were safely evacuated from the school, but there was no fire in the building and there was no threat to student safety.”
Superintendent Dr. Richard Markwardt and Asst. Superintendent Robert Hardis responded to the scene shortly after the fire department arrived.
Due to the incident, several after-school activities were postponed or cancelled, including afternoon academy sessions, a pre-law society meeting and a Beachcomber staff meeting.
