The BHS Amnesty International Club held the “Soles 4 Souls” campaign in early October to provide shoes to students in Haiti.
Club adviser Don Majercak said, “This campaign’s purpose is to send shoes so Haiti’s students can go to school and have a chance at an education.”
The Beachwood Soles 4 Souls drive was part of Amnesty International’s nationwide campaign.
Junior Danny Padilla proposed Beachwood participate in the campaign after learning about it from Carly Borstein, a parent of a child at the Ratner School, who is the local organizer for the Souls 4 Souls campaign.
Of the 160 pairs Beachwood students collected, the most interesting was a boot with a huge platform, about four inches high.
Amnesty International’s next campaign is “trick or treat for UNICEF”. On Halloween, trick or treaters will collect money for the United Nations Children’s Fund. This week, Amnesty International students will be collecting money around the school building.
