The just dance club held their first meeting on Nov. 14, a fun, engaging, and relaxing way for students to wind down after a busy week in school.

Founded by student Angelica Tall, the club centers around dancing to the popular Just Dance video game. Under the guidance of social studies teacher Felecia Hamilton, who has a personal passion for dancing, the group meets on Fridays in Room 167.

“If you enjoy dancing and just want a nice way to unwind on Fridays, then Room 167 is the place to be,” Hamilton said.

At its first meeting, the club’s turnout included Tall and two other members, juniors Ellen Hawkins and Kendall Finley. Despite its modest size, the club is already brainstorming ways to expand, from creating custom playlists to potentially hosting a school-wide event.

“Some type of danceathon for the school would be cool, but we’re not there yet,” Hamilton said.

To spread the word and attract more members, club members plan to recruit. They’re also planning to provide snacks during meetings with the hope of a larger turnout.

The club’s current agenda emphasizes entertainment and relaxation, aligning with its mission to create a space where students can shake off stress while staying active.

“The just dance club provides a fun and relaxing way for students to dance and unwind at the end of the week,” Hamilton explained.

The club’s president shared additional insights about her motivations to start the club.

“What inspired me to start dance club was how many people do sports, but half the time they’re bench players,” Tall said. “They’re not getting that exercise they need. I think it’s also really important to have motivation. School is just so tiring that we need something to motivate us.”

Tall’s favorite dance routine is “Rasputin” from Just Dance

“You’re getting down and putting so much effort into this dance, and once you’re done, you feel your energy levels just growing,” she said. “It’s amazing!”

Despite challenges in getting the club approved, like finding an advisor and scheduling—Tall remained optimistic about its future. She envisions a safe and judgment-free environment where students can enjoy any type of music.

She encourages all students to take part in this new and exciting club.

“Just join. I mean, no judgment here,” Tall said. “We love all types of music. We just want everybody to have fun. Fun is a part of life.”

While the club is still in its early stages, its potential is evident. Whether it’s a danceathon fundraiser or a collaboration with other student organizations, the just dance club is poised to become a vibrant part of the school’s extracurricular offerings. For now, its members are thrilled to have a place to dance their hearts out on Friday afternoons.
