The Asian affinity club, or Asian-American Pacific Islanders Club (AAPI), began in the 2022-2023 school year.

The club’s purpose is for students to celebrate and learn about various Asian cultures. The club meets monthly, typically around an Asian holiday, in the library classroom.

Senior Ana Shlachter joined the AAPI in her sophomore year.

“I joined the club because I was excited to learn about other cultures and represent Filipinos as well since there aren’t as many in the school,” she said.

The Asian Affinity Club held the first meeting of the 2024-25 school year on Sept. 10.

Board members discussed what the club was about and brought snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Shlachter described the first meeting as a huge success with a turnout of around 25 to 30 people.

She expects most people to return because most members have been in the club for the past two years.

Her favorite part about the AAPI is learning about different cultures and the traditions they take part in.

The Asian Affinity Club is open for everyone to join.

“I would want to let everyone know that you don’t have to be Asian to join the club,” Shlachter said. “We welcome anybody.”
