A New Voice on the Morning Announcements

Senior Arpith Prasad will be delivering the BHS morning announcements this year.

“I didn’t really see anyone really wanting to fill that role at the end of last year and I was trying to just fill the shoes of Probir, because he used to do it,” Prasad said. “I just wanted to fill that role.”

Probir Mukherjee graduated from BHS last year, leaving the position open for the taking. As a member of Model United Nations (M.U.N.), Prasad intended to carry on a tradition that has developed over the last few years.

“There’s kind of a tradition or legacy where someone from the M.U.N. executive board does the morning announcements,” Prasad said. “It started with Julian, then Probir, and now me. I’m trying to carry that on.”

Prasad follows in the steps of Mukherjee’s past role, but he wants to make some change.

“I’m [hoping to add] more consistency,” Prasad said. “I’m trying to include more clubs that might not get recognized as much as I’d want them to be.”

The morning announcer shared how he builds up the courage to address the whole school.

“You’re in a room alone—it’s just you and yourself. I just think of it like talking to another person instead of the whole school,” said Prasad.

While Prasad is the voice behind the speaker, Secretary to Principal Paul Chase Amy Schulte writes the script.

“I get handed a script, and then I read it,” Prasad said. “I have a paper every single morning, and I read it. I can also add my own input if I want to, so it’s pretty flexible.”

Prasad plans to conduct announcements every morning at 8:15 AM, depending on if he can ride his bike to school in time.
