Students should get ready for cool beats, solid rhythm and dancing ballerinas brought by the BHS orchestra this semester.
The orchestra, consisting of 96 students, is getting ready for two exciting events between now and winter break.
The largest event will be held on Dec.12: the orchestra’s collaboration with Cleveland City Dance. They will perform excerpts from “The Nutcracker,” the Christmas-season ballet.
Orchestra director Lisa Goldman is very pleased with her talented students. “They’re wonderful kids and a lot of fun,” she said.
Another event the orchestra class is looking forward to this semester is a fundraiser held at WhirlyBall on Nov. 11. According to Goldman, a portion of the earnings will go towards the Rome trip next year. Funds raised will also cover orchestra expenses including equipment, clinicians, concert assistants and contest coaches.
Goldman is supported by her assistant Noël Bliss.
“[We] cater to a variety of musical instruments and abilities,” said Goldman.
She wrote in an email, “My goal with them is that when they graduate, [each student] will have an appreciation for the art form and seek out opportunities to participate either as a listener at a concert or [as a performer] in a community group.”
