On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the “If You Really Knew Me” club held their first meeting in the classroom of social studies teacher Karissa Piper. 32 students attended.
Junior Danyelle Shelton had the idea for the club after watching the MTV show, “If You Really Knew Me.”
Shelton is club president and junior Gabrielle Perryman is vice president. School Psychologist Kevin Kemelhar is adviser.
Shelton hopes that the club will give people a chance to make new friends that they would not otherwise talk to.
Kemelhar expects that the club will give kids the opportunity to safely discuss difficult topics.
Shelton believes that students who join the club will benefit. “They can have a chance to get to know people and express their feelings.”
Club members enjoy cookies and doughnuts at their meetings, and they are planning a pizza party and picnic.
Shelton described club activities, “Students will talk about issues that they don’t usually speak of in school, [which will] make them smile.”
