In the month of October, the Susan G. Komen Foundation pairs up with corporate affiliates to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research. Each October, Payless Shoe Stores as well as Yoplait yogurt donate a percentage of their revenue through the sales of items particularly devoted to the cause of breast cancer.

Yoplait’s efforts are shown through the “Save Lids to Save Lives” program. “For every pink lid that a buyer sends in, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Foundation,” said a Yoplait associate. Up to 1.5 million dollars can be donated.

On the other hand, Payless Shoe Stores contribute through the sale of breast cancer bracelets as well as pink ribbon slippers. For each bracelet and pair of slippers sold, Payless donates 100% of profits made.

“We’ve been doing this for 6 years,” a Payless associate says. “Were committed.” In the year of 2009 alone, both Payless and Yoplait have a combined total of over a million dollars in donations to Susan G. Komen.

Yoplait also sponsors Race for the Cure and has been for a total of 9 years. Yoplait and Payless both agree on the importance of American contribution. “Your lid matters!” a Yoplait associate said. Both associates agree that it is important to continue Susan G. Komen’s efforts to make “a healthy difference in their customers’ lives.”
