The Ten Commandments of Freshman Year

Attention incoming freshmen.

If you are lying awake at night worrying about what to expect in your first year of high school, take these commandments to heart and your freshman year will be a breeze.

1.     Thou shalt not worry about having special classes or lunch without your bffs. There will always be someone to sit with and people to meet.

2.     Thou shall carry your schedule with you for the first few days until it is committed to memory due to the possibility of getting lost. And if you find yourself lost, always feel free to ask someone for assistance.

3.     Thou shalt not be tardy to school. Teachers take attendance very seriously, and missing the beginning of class could put you at a disadvantage.

4.     Thou shall join clubs and sports teams. Don’t be intimidated. It is a great way to meet new people (not to mention it looks great on your applications)

5.     Thou shall not procrastinate on projects and assignments. Teachers are notorious for piling on assignments when you least expect it.

6.     Thou shall make an effort not to be absent on “days prior to a big test. These days are usually devoted to reviewing the topics on the upcoming test.

7.     Thou shall attend academy periods if help is needed. Don’t be intimidated by the one-on-one time with the teachers.  They are more than happy to assist you and sometimes let you in on the inside scoop of an upcoming test.

 8.     Thou shall frequently check eSIS, FirstClass, and Blackboard for messages from teachers about study

guides for upcoming tests, changed due dates, etc… Frequently checking your grades also keeps you motivated to keep them up.

9.     Thou shall take one “fun” elective per semester to look forward to during a long day of classes.

10.Thou shall attempt to attend most school events because it is a great way to meet new people and get involved in the Beachwood spirit.
