The Bison boys basketball team beat the Kirtland Hornets 71-50 at the sectional semifinal on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The main scorers were senior Ben Sternberg and sophomore Jayson Woodrich. The duo combined for 46 points on the night in an exceptional outing of scoring. It seemed as if every shot they took would hit the bottom of the net.

Kirtland was leading in the earlier portions of the game, but struggled to hold a lead. The Bison took a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back.

I think we could beat anyone if we work together as a team.

“As an individual I thought I played pretty good and shot well,” Bison leading scorer Jayson Woodrich said. “As a team, we played pretty bad in the first half, mainly because we had 10 days off from our last game, but in the 2nd half we figured it out.”

Woodrich dropped 24 points in the game, a week after finding out he was named First Team All CVC.

They play in the Sectional Final tonight at home against the MLK Crusaders.

Woodrich and his teammates hope to put together a scoring outbreak against MLK in order to move on in the tournament.

“I think we could beat anyone if we work together as a team,” Woodrich said.
