Senior Bison basketball guard Maishe Dailey has been the subject of considerable interest from college scouts since this past summer, and on Wednesday, May 4, he announced his decision to become an Iowa Hawkeye.

Dailey, a 6’6, 180 lb. guard, originally committed to Rutgers University on Jan. 23, but then decommitted on March 18 after former head coach Eddie Jordan was fired on March 10.

“I decommitted because I felt that there was a better opportunity out there for me,” Dailey said.

Many elements go into making a college decision, and for Dailey there were many schools to choose from. According to 247Sports, he had 22 offers prior to committing to Iowa.

“The factors that went into making my decision included how much of a fit I was to the team, and how much I am going to be developed over the years [at the school],” Dailey said.

Dailey’s offers included many from Division I schools with solid fan bases and skilled teams including, Northern Iowa, Ohio, Akron, Buffalo and U-Texas at El Paso.

“What I like most about Iowa is their fan base; it’s crazy,” Dailey said.

What I like about the coaching staff is how honest they were with me every step of the way. The team also has a great shooting ability.

Dailey is also excited about the skill of the Iowa roster and the authenticity of the coaching staff.

“What I like about the coaching staff is how honest they were with me every step of the way,” he said. “The team also has a great shooting ability.”

Dailey isn’t the only one excited about his arrival in Iowa City next fall. Their fan base has been raving about the Hawkeye recruit ever since he came into the picture, and both current players and 2016 recruits have reached out to him.

“A couple players from the team reached out to me, and I’ve been in contact with all of the 2016 commits,” he said.

While it is a very exciting time for Dailey, he has also learned a lot throughout the recruiting process.

“I’ve learned that for the coaches this is all a business,” he said. “It’s hard to find a coach that genuinely likes you for you. Most coaches like you because you can keep their program successful.”

Dailey has learned a lot throughout his time at Beachwood and during the recruiting process, but now he is ready to start a new stage of his life.

“I will be off to campus in early June to join the team for summer classes and daily workouts to prepare myself,” Dailey continued. “I’m looking forward to getting on campus and getting to work right away.”
