The Beachwood  softball team  had a strong start to their season, and at midseason is holding a 5-4 record .

“It’s going well so far. We should’ve won our first game, but we’re continuing to improve,” senior outfielder Jordyn White said.

“Our season has been great so far. We’ve been doing better than ever this year, and hitting in the cages has really paid off for us,” said junior Kayla Harrison, who plays a variety of positions.

The Bison attribute some of their success to their coaches.

“I love our new coach Lisa, she has been a great help to the team and someone we can bond with because she has played in college and is the only girl coach. Plus she is closer to our age,” Harrison said.

This season marks a comeback from last year’s 4-11 season. The players are proud of this turnaround.

“This season to me means winning many more games than we did last year and showing off the improvements each player has made in the offseason,” White said.

“This season means a lot to me because it’s my junior year, and so it’s a big part of my high school career, so I’d like to play to my fullest potential,” Harrison said.

There have been many great individual and team memories this season.

“One of my favorite memories was hitting my first line drive at a tournament we played at over the summer,” White said.

“We are really sarcastic with each other, but that’s just the way we are and share a lot of laughs during the season,” Harrison said.

“Another great memory is beating Orange,” she continued. “We [hadn’t] beat Orange in seven years.”

White agreed that the victory against Orange was one of the season’s greatest moments.

“My favorite part is working with such an amazing group of girls that are now showing what Beachwood softball can do,” Harrison added.

Despite fond memories of this year’s season, players are already beginning to eye next season nervously, with the loss of six star seniors.

“I am also sad that so many of our seniors are leaving next year because they are a crucial part to our team and a big part of our success. So next year we’d definitely have to step it up a bit,” Harrison said.

Senior Alex Mintz, however, is confident that the underclassmen will pick up the slack.

“Our seniors leaving is going to be a tough loss but I’m confident in the younger kids that they’ll be able to handle it and they have tons of hard work that they’re putting in and I know they’ll be good,” she said.

For now, the girls are focused just on the next game.

“My goals, personally are to continue to improve on my batting and throwing,” White said. “For the team, I hope we continue to have a winning record and go in the postseason with the best chance of winning.”

“I look forward to seeing how we finish the season and maybe even a district title this year. I also look forward to seeing how I perform and develop as an individual player,” Harrison said.
