Emilykate Hopson-Boyd interviews Senior Avery Gillette

E: So, Avery, how do you like Beachwood so far?

A: I really like it. It’s fun, I like the kids here, it’s really cool.

E: What school did you come from?

A: Proug, in Rhode Island.

E: Wow, that’s a really far move!

A: Yup.

E: Why did you move here?

A: My mom got a new job.

E: How do you compare Beachwood to your old school?

A: It’s a lot better! It’s a lot more free… a lot nicer. You know, my old school was Catholic and this is public, I’ve never been to a public school so it’s cool. I like wearing my own clothes, and expressing myself.

Emilykate Hopson-Boyd interviewing Junior Hosanna Stewart

E: So, Hosanna, how do you like Beachwood?

H: It’s fine, it’s going good right now for my first year. You know, I’m starting to get used to my classrooms and starting to make new friends, so it’s going good right now.

E: What school did you come from?

H: Richmond Heights.

E: So what made you move to Beachwood?

H: Better school opportunities, better education opportunities, and just better opportunities period.

E: Do you plan to proceed in any activities in school?

H: Yes, I’m planning on joining the girls basketball team, and I’m planning on maybe doing track and field in the springtime.

E: How do you compare this school to Richmond Heights?

H: Just, a better school system. You know, just more opportunities in the education field, and more opportunities for careers in my later life.

Emilykate Hopson-Boyd interviewing Junior Tayia Minor

E: Tayia, what school did you go to?

T: Odella, it was a home school.

E: What city did you come from?

T: University Heights.

E: Now, why did you move to Beachwood?

T: ‘Cause my mom wanted to come here two years ago, but she finally just did it.

E: Oh, okay. So finally got that opportunity.

T: Yeah!

E: So, how do you compare a home school to a public school?

T: It’s very different. When you’re home schooled you’re like in the house, but you’re on the computer with other kids instead of like seeing them every day, like you see these people. So, it’s very different. And we kind of, like, start whenever, and we do the work whenever we turn it in, so.

E: So, do you prefer home school or do you prefer Beachwood?

T: Uh… Sometimes home school because you don’t have to get up that early, and Beachwood because it kinda gets boring when you’re by yourself sometimes.

E: So what activities do you plan on doing in school?

T: I wanna do drama and debate.

Emilykate Hopson-Boyd interviews Junior Meryeha Harden

E: What school did you come from?

M: I came from Villa Angela St. Joseph.

E: How did you like that school?

M: It was okay, like, social wise, but academic wise I’m not sure.

E: Now, do you like it here at Beachwood?

M: Yeah.

E: How can you compare Villa Angela St. Joseph to Beachwood?

M: Well, they moved slower. I’m actually learning stuff here. I kinda like school now.

E: What made you move to Beachwood?

M: My mom made me. And, I mean, I kinda wanted to come to Beachwood when I came to the mall one day, and we rode past, and it looks nice.

E: What do you plan pursuing while you’re at Beachwood?

M: Graduating high school.

E: Any activities you want to join?

M: I think I want to cheer for basketball season, and maybe drill team.

E: Anything that you might want to learn while you’re here at Beachwood?

M: I wanna learn more math, ’cause I’m really bad at math, really bad.
